The Neck Knife is a pretty good, compact multi use item. It’s small enough to not get in the way, but has enough blade length and heft to handle many “oh, no, now what?” scenarios. It won’t replace my regular “always on my hip” blade, but if that one isn’t available, this will probably manage.
The handle is a bit small for my hands, but that’s me, and even so, it fits the first few fingers ok. It’s actually kind of comfortable given it’s size. You just can’t expect to use it to fight a bear. (not a big one, at least) :-)
It didn’t come razor sharp outta the box, but pretty well for the factory edging, considering the price. I believe it will take an edge if given the time and effort to make it so. I showed this a bit in the video, slicing paper. Decent, not great.
The sharpening rod seems a trifle coarse, but ought to suffice for field use. I won’t be using this knife to trim my mustache after all.
The compass actually looks like it’s matching up to a couple of my better ones, as far as pointing where it should. A gazillion others have mentioned you need to take the blade out of the case, well, it’s true. No biggie.
The ferro rod is a bit on the small side, but if you lost your good one, it’ll muster up some reasonable sparks. Not great, but for its size it does work. Sparks showed in the video, but not like a big ferro rod would.
It came with a good strong cord. I don’t think it’s 550 paracord, but it’s good for hanging around your neck. I may swap it out for some, just…
