The 5 in 1 survival whistle is good and loud, has a nice bright orange color with a nice yellow lanyard plenty long enough to hang around ones’ neck. The compass is not very good. It will do as a last ditch improvement over just guessing, but I wouldn’t plan on using it unless I had no other.
The o-ring seems just enough to seal it, but I will apply a bit of my petroleum jelly to it before I put it in my kit.
There’s a tiny ferro rod/flint mounted on the side of the case, and it actually DOES send out more sparks than I expected it would. I was pleasantly surprised by it.
My main fault is that it is too small for the storm proof matches I currently have. They are approximately 2-3/4 inches long and the case is only large enough inside to accommodate around 2-1/4, 2-3/8 inches.
Kitchen matches, mine at least are 2-3/16, so they fit. I don’t know how long others are these days but my emergency/waterproof matches are what I have at the moment. What YOU have might fit, but I don’t want to trim mine, so will look around for different ones.
Survival Frog sells a case with their own matches, but are out of stock right now. I’m looking forward to ordering some of them, and hope they fit. I’ll keep them in the case they come in if not.
Not the best of Survival Frogs’ offerings, but hey, no one’s perfect, and they come pretty close.
I’m on the fence about recommending this, for the first time. Since it has more good points than negative ones, I say a “qualified “ yes.
